IDPwD Yarning Guide

The Yarning Guide aims to help First Nations communities start conversations about disability. The Community Yarning Session Template has tips and guidance to run a yarning session about disability.

Description

The Yarning Guide focuses on real stories of First Nations people with disability and asks yarning questions to:

  • share stories and information in a culturally safe way
  • challenge stereotypes and negative attitudes
  • recognise the different experiences of First Nations people with disability
  • start conversations in the community about disability.

The Community Yarning Session Template is an editable presentation for local groups, schools and workplaces to run a yarning session about disability.

These resources were co-designed with First Nations community members and feature original artwork by Aneika Kapeen, a Yaegl and Bundjalung artist.

They are part of the Community Conversation Guide suite of resources that are available in 11 languages, Easy Read and Auslan video.
